Scoliosis Rehab Inc. was founded by two mothers who unexpectedly found themselves dealing with adolescents with scoliosis. No strong family history, no previous fears -- just one day it was discovered and we were thrown into the system.

Beth Janssen has 20 years of experience as a practicing Physical Therapist and Rhonda Campo has 20 years of experience in the healthcare and biotech arenas. By the time Rhonda had searched the medical literature for a non-surgical treatment, Beth was already a Certified Schroth Therapist. Both of their children have been trained by Dr. Manuel Rigo MD from Barcelona, Spain. Learning the Schroth Based Method dramatically improved their childrens' ability to accept and manage their scoliosis, change the shape of their torso, and improve their vital capacity. They were grateful for the impact the Schroth Based Method had on their children and decided they would work to make the method available in the United States, for adults and adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis and Scheuermann's Kyphosis.

The Schroth Based Method, as it is delivered in Europe, is multidisciplinary -- involving a referral from a physician, an evaluation and exercise regime directed by a specially trained and Schroth certified physical therapist and consultation from an orthotist, when necessary.

Beth Janssen PT became one of the first certified Schroth Therapists in the USA in 2003 and has been working with the Schroth Based Method continuously since her certification.

The Schroth Based Method begins with education about the spine, anatomy, and posture. The curve is studied and measured via x-ray films and torso shape and then classified into specific Schroth curve categories. Once the individual understands what his or her back looks like, postural corrections and exercises specific to his or her curves are taught. Specific principles of correction for each individual curve are used in the exercises. In addition, a technique called rotational breathing is taught to improve vital capacity. The goal of the treatment is for the person to understand his or her curve, perform the corrections and eventually incorporate the corrections in daily activities---sitting, walking, standing and living.

The Schroth Based Method has deeply affected our families and we hope that we can be of service to you.
